How the two resources work together:

The slides and worksheets follow the same daily focus and the same 40-week sequence.

❤️ Teach on the screen: Use the slides for a brief teacher-led mini-lesson, oral warm-up, modelling, and discussion.

✏️ Apply on the page: Students use the matching worksheet for approximately 5 minutes of written practice with the same daily skill.

➡️ In the early weeks, slide examples often closely support the written activity as students learn the routine. As the year progresses, oral practice increasingly introduces additional examples and asks students to do more of the explaining and decision-making.

You do not need to use both formats every day. The teaching slides can be used completely on their own for oral and whole-class practice, while the worksheets can also be used independently with the included teaching guides.

Each week follows a familiar five-day routine:

Introduction/Overview: introduces or reviews the focus word part, its meaning or job, and familiar examples

Monday – Build It: students combine base words and word parts to build complete words and consider how the added part changes meaning

Tuesday – Make Meaning: students explore how word parts affect meaning through matching, sorting, comparing, or choosing meanings

Wednesday – Which Word Fits?: students use word-part meanings, base words, and sentence clues to determine which word makes sense in context

Thursday – Use the Clues: students use word meanings, a word bank, and sentence clues to complete sentences and explain their choices

Friday – Word Detective: students analyze a new word in context, identify meaningful word parts, and use them to determine or explain the complete meaning

➡️ Students build a strong foundation with high-frequency prefixes and suffixes using familiar base words, then increasingly apply that knowledge to unfamiliar words and new contexts. View the complete prefix and suffix scope in the preview!

❤️ Designed for manageable daily instruction: brief teacher-led teaching and oral practice lead into approximately 5 minutes of written student practice when using the worksheets.

Flexible for your classroom: project the slides for whole-class instruction, use the morphology activities during small groups, complete activities orally, add the matching written practice, or choose whichever format works best that day.
